Sundial Beach Resort and Spa Awarded for Sustainability Practices
Florida Department of Environmental Protection Gives the Resort Green Lodging Recognition
Sanibel Island, Fla. — Sundial Beach Resort & Spa was recently recognized as a lodging facility committed to conservation efforts of Florida’s natural resources. The Florida Green Lodging Program is a voluntary initiative of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) that designates and recognizes lodging facilities who score high marks in the areas of waste reduction, water conservation, energy efficiency, indoor air quality and education initiatives.
The program’s environmental guidelines allow the hospitality industry to evaluate its operations, set goals and take specific actions to continuously improve environmental performance. A few examples of the resort’s exemplary initiatives are energy-efficient lighting and its linen reuse program that conserves water allowing for more efficient housekeeping services. Additionally, Sundial uses locally sourced food at its three onsite dining facilities and catering operations.
“We are extremely proud to have received this designation. Preserving the natural resources and wildlife of Sanibel Island is so important to us and the surrounding community,” said Phillip Starling, general manager at Sundial Beach Resort & Spa. “Our green and sustainable practices attract guests and improve our overall operations.”
Assessments are made on a regular basis by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the designation is good for three years with the requirement of submitting environmental performance data annually.
