Five Wedding Trends for 2016

DATE: February 19, 2016

Spring is just around the corner and so is the beginning of wedding season.

Here at Sundial Beach Resort & Spa, we know all about weddings, from small intimate gatherings on the beach to large ballroom weddings with seating for several hundred.  With our wonderful and warm Florida winters, we host weddings year-round here on Sanibel Island.

As you make plans for your wedding this year, check out these five wedding trends for 2016.

Bye, Bye Wedding Cake

Many of today’s brides and grooms are foregoing the traditional wedding cake for other creative options, according to Brides.com. These include tiered cheesecakes, cupcakes, cake pops, pies or cookies that offer the look of the traditional wedding cake, without the expense.

Mix It Up With Metallics

Brides like their sparkle and bling and this continues to be a popular trend for weddings, according to The Knot. Think sparkly or metallic bridesmaid dresses in silver or gold palettes, sparkly tablecloths or runners, as well as foil accents on invitations and stationery. Rose gold and copper are also hot colors this year so don’t be afraid to mix them with other metallics.

Bands, Orchestras, and More

Many of today’s brides are looking for live music in the way of bands, orchestras, pianists, singers and even contemporary choirs!  But there will always be room for a fun DJ at the reception, spinning favorite songs and getting everyone out on the dance floor.

Drink and Food Stations

There will always be a place for the formal sit-down dinner but some couples are opting for less formal affairs with various drink and beverage stations located throughout the reception area.  This idea is perfect for wedding receptions that are held indoors and out, like those held here at Sundial.

Destination Weddings

Destination weddings never go out of style as couples love getting away and making a full weekend out of their wedding celebration with family and friends. Not only do brides and grooms love a tropical destination like Sanibel Island, they like being able to hold all parts of the wedding here at Sundial with our many different types of venues.  These include the beach, our lawn, terrace and our various Gulf view dining rooms that can accommodate up to 300 guests.
