Karissa and Jayson Tie the Knot
Hurricane Irma couldn’t stop Karissa and Jayson from tying the knot on Sanibel Island this fall. After their original venue was damaged by the storm, Sundial was happy to step in and create the wedding of their dreams. We hope you enjoy learning a little more about the happy couple and their big day.
Where are you from?
We live in Dallas, Texas. I moved to Texas after living in Canada for 12 years. I then met Jayson who is a Texas native.
How did you meet?
I was working at a salon as a receptionist and Jayson would come in to get his haircut. He had asked his hairdresser about me a few times until I gave the okay for her to give him my number. In a way, our first date was a blind date since we really hadn’t spoken until then!
How did he propose?
We were visiting Toronto and I was excited to show him around the city so he could see where I grew up. We went to a pier so I could get some shots of the city skyline on my camera. Jayson wanted someone to take our picture and saw a couple a little farther down the pier. He ran after them, which I thought was a little odd since he is never that eager to take a picture. I later learned he wanted to get to them before me so he could tell them he was proposing and if they could take a picture. When I caught up to them I thought we were just taking a simple picture, until Jayson took my hand and got down on one knee. I was in complete shock. It was one of the best days of my life.
Where did you get your wedding day inspiration?
I pulled most of my inspiration from Pinterest. I had always dreamed of a beach wedding but I wanted to also incorporate a very feminine and charming look as opposed to tropical.
What were some of your favorite wedding details?
Our “guestbook” was really unique – we used a custom globe that guests could sign. Also, our centerpieces that our florist created were so beautiful. They included lanterns, greenery, and what looked like small pink pineapples. It was just a small touch of beach décor, mixed with elegance.
Would you recommend Sundial to other couples? Why?
I would recommend Sundial to other couples not only because of their beautiful beach and balcony that overlooks the Gulf of Mexico, but because of their outstanding service.
Any big surprises on your big day?
We were actually supposed to have our wedding somewhere else. However, Hurricane Irma destroyed our original venue and Sundial was kind enough to let us have our wedding with them. I had only seen Sundial’s venue a few days before our wedding. The day held no big surprises but many blessings instead. Especially since, without Sundial, we most likely would have had to cancel the wedding day.
What was your first dance song?
For our first dance, we danced to Wonderful Tonight, by Eric Clapton.
What advice would you give future brides thinking about tying the knot at Sundial?
My advice to other brides is that with Sundial you do not have to worry about service. They are always helpful and on top of everything. Tiffany was our coordinator and was fantastic. She was attentive and answered all our questions. She was quick with emails and always responded quickly.
