Earth Day on Sanibel Island
Happy Earth Day! Here on Sanibel Island, experiencing, enjoying and protecting all that nature has to offer is very important to us. As many people know, 2/3 of Sanibel Island is dedicated preserve and refuge land. However, protecting the island’s most native inhabitants isn’t just limited to the refuge lands. Learn more about some of the great organizations that help preserve everything that makes Sanibel special and find out how you can enjoy the glories of nature the next time you’re on the island.
Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation
The Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) is dedicated to the conservation of coastal habitats and aquatic resources on Sanibel and Captiva and in the surrounding watershed. This conservation includes the Adopt-a-Beach program that helps to protect sea turtle and shorebird nesting sites, of which Sundial is a participant. The SCCF offers year-round programming, including events, education and excursions.
Every week, Sanibel Sea School offers guided birdwatching and shell walks on Sundial Beach Resort & Spa’s beachfront property. Connect with nature and learn some basic biology and tips to make the most of your shelling and birdwatching experiences while on the islands! Private stand-up paddleboarding excursions can also be arranged which provide a unique opportunity to access prime wildlife watching areas with a knowledgeable marine science educator.
CROW, the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, has spent 50 years saving and rehabilitating the wildlife of Southwest Florida. The clinic offers guided wildlife walks with rehabilitators and staff, daily presentations, lunch and learns and a speaker series to help the public learn all about the local wildlife and what the program does to help support these local inhabitants.
